How to Turn Postmortems into Alerts

4 min read Incident Management

Every incident teaches you something. Nova captures that lesson automatically: after a postmortem it analyzes what went wrong and proposes new detection rules, so the same failure mode is caught earlier the next time. You review and accept them in one place.

Steps

1

Resolve and generate the postmortem

Close out the incident and let Nova generate the postmortem from the timeline, logs, and resolution data.

2

Open Detection Proposals

Go to the Detection Proposals page. Nova lists new alert rules derived from recent incidents.

3

Review each proposal

Each card shows the signal, the threshold, and how much earlier the rule would have caught the incident. That last part tells you whether the rule is worth it.

4

Accept or edit

Accept to create the alert in one click, or adjust the threshold and conditions first. Accepted rules appear on the Alerts page immediately.

Tip:

Detection Proposals is available on Pro and Enterprise plans. It is the difference between writing a postmortem and actually closing the loop on it.
