How to Connect Jira

4 min read Integrations

Connect Jira to turn incidents into tracked work automatically. Nova can open a Jira issue when an incident starts or when a postmortem is published, link it back to the incident timeline, and map severity to priority.

Steps

1

Create a Jira API token

In your Atlassian account, create an API token. You will use it with your account email to authenticate.

2

Start the connection

In Nova, go to Settings > Integrations, find the Jira tile, and click Connect.

3

Enter your Jira details

Provide the base URL, your email, the API token, and the default project key for new issues.

4

Choose when to create issues

Decide the trigger: create an issue when an incident opens, when a postmortem is published, or both.

5

Map fields

Map Nova severity to Jira priority and set any default labels or components so issues land tidy.

Tip:

You can link existing Jira issues to an incident too, so the timeline shows related tickets and engineers see the reliability context.
